Bumble bios
Bumble bio ideas that give people something to say
Updated 29 October 2026
A Bumble bio is a few lines that sit under your photos. It's short, so every word has to earn its place. The best bios don't describe you. They show one or two specific things and leave an obvious way in.
Below is a simple formula, examples for different types of people, and the lines worth cutting. Borrow the structure, not the words. A bio that sounds like someone else won't help you on the date.
A formula that works
Most good bios have three parts. You don't need all three, but you need at least two:
- A specific thing you do or like. Not "I love food" but "I'll cross town for a good bánh mì".
- A bit of personality. An opinion, a mild confession, a small brag you're slightly embarrassed by.
- A hook. A question, a choice, a challenge, or something you'd like to do with someone.
Keep it to two or three short sentences. Line breaks help on a phone. Skip anything you'd skim past on someone else's profile.
A quick way to find your material: write down three things you did in the last month that you'd happily tell a friend about. A place, a small disaster, a new obsession. One of them is probably your opening line.
Bumble bio examples
These are written to show the shape of a good bio. Change the details to your own. A borrowed detail is worse than none.
If you're outdoorsy
Before
Love the outdoors, hiking and adventures. Looking for an adventure buddy.
After
Most weekends end up somewhere in the Peaks with a flask and a sandwich I've overthought. Looking for someone to tell me which Edale pub actually does the best chips.
A real place, a small self-own, and a question built in.
If you're more of a homebody
Before
Netflix, wine and cosy nights in.
After
Proud owner of a sourdough starter called Gerald. Ideal Saturday is a long lunch, a film I've seen ten times, and someone to argue with about the ending.
Cosy, but specific. Gerald is the reply.
If you're funny
Before
Fluent in sarcasm and memes. Must have banter.
After
I've been banned from my family's Monopoly nights since 2019. I maintain I did nothing wrong. Happy to explain over a drink.
Shows humour instead of claiming it.
If you're quieter
Before
Bit shy at first but I'll warm up. Ask me anything.
After
Better at listening than small talk. Currently reading my way through every book set in Yorkshire. Tell me your favourite and I'll tell you if it's on the list.
Turns shyness into an easy opening instead of an apology.
If you work long hours
Before
Work hard, play hard. Busy but make time for the right person.
After
Junior doctor, so my free evenings are precious and usually involve a ramen place I've been meaning to try. Recommendations get you a lot of goodwill.
The job explains the schedule without making it the whole bio.
If you have a dog
Before
Dog mum. If you don't like dogs, swipe left.
After
My terrier, Biscuit, has opinions on every other dog in the park. He's usually right. You'd be meeting both of us eventually.
The dog is a character, not a filter.
Use the prompts too
Bumble also gives you prompts alongside the bio. Use them to show different sides of you rather than repeating the bio. If your bio is about the Peaks, a prompt about your cooking or a strong opinion on a film balances it out.
The same rules apply as on Hinge: specific beats general, short beats long, and every answer should be easy to reply to. Our guide to Hinge prompts goes deeper on choosing and answering prompts, and most of it carries straight over.

Some phrases turn up in so many bios that people's eyes slide right past them:
- "Fluent in sarcasm" or "fluent in" anything.
- "Partner in crime" and "adventure buddy".
- "Love to travel" with no place attached.
- "Foodie". Name a dish instead.
- "No drama". It reads as if there's been plenty.
- "Swipe left if...". Rules before hello put people off.
- "Just ask". It hands all the work to the other person.
None of these are crimes. They just don't tell anyone anything they couldn't guess. There are more in our list of dating profile mistakes.
Bio mistakes that aren't about wording
- Leaving it blank. Even one good line beats nothing, because it gives people a reason to start a conversation.
- A list of requirements. Height, job, star sign. It reads like a job ad.
- Your Instagram handle and nothing else. It suggests you're there for followers.
- A bio that contradicts your photos. If you say you're outdoorsy, show one outdoor photo.
- Writing it once and forgetting it. Reread it every few weeks. If it bores you, it bores everyone.
Check your bio before you post it
- Is there at least one real noun: a place, a dish, a name, a hobby?
- Is there something a stranger could reply to in a few words?
- Does it sound like you'd say it out loud?
- Is anything negative, a demand, or a cliché from the list above?
Your bio is only part of the picture. Your photos usually decide whether people read it at all, so it's worth checking the Hinge photo tips too. Most of the advice works on every app.
Questions people ask
How long can a Bumble bio be?
Bumble limits your bio to a few hundred characters. You don't need all of them. Two or three short sentences with one specific detail and an easy way in usually works better than filling the box.
What should I write in my Bumble bio if I'm boring?
You're not, you're just describing yourself in general terms. Pick one specific thing you did last weekend, one opinion you hold, and one thing you'd like to do with someone. That's a bio.
Should I put my job in my Bumble bio?
Only if it adds something. Your job usually has its own field. Mention it in the bio when it explains something about your life or gives people an easy question to ask.
Is it OK to use a funny Bumble bio?
Yes, if funny is how you talk. Show the humour through a specific story or opinion rather than describing yourself as funny.
